Data Scientist

Permanent employee, Full-time · Berlin
Your mission
CleanHub harnesses the power of tech to address one of the world's most pressing issues: ocean plastic.

Our lightweight platform enables effective waste management systems to be set up quickly in the coastal areas where they're needed most. Through our app we track and trace the entire logistics chain to provide the digital evidence for every kg of plastic that did not end up in our oceans. Check out our live impact

You will be joining CleanHub at a critical and exciting time. In our first two years of operation we financed the collection of 1’000’000kg (equivalent to 100 million soda bottles) of ocean bound plastic - now it’s time to scale the impact.

Plastic waste has value. The circular waste management system of the future needs to be fully auditable and fraud proof. This has never been done before. Your goal will be to design and build the algorithmic and machine-learning systems capable of detecting the anomalies and also providing insights in real time from our fast growing data set so that we can build trust around waste quality and value.

In this role you will work closely with the CTO and product management, but you will also interact with the operational team on the ground to always have a complete picture of how our data relates to our operations.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop services and algorithms that enable the detection of anomalies in our data points representing the flow of plastic (collection, segregation, clearance, recovery)
  • Collaborate with engineers to productionalize machine learning models and other insights
  • Present your investigations and key insights to stakeholders within the team and across the company
  • Grow and expand your expertise and CleanHub's ML technology stack
  • Create an ML platform and improve our optimisation capabilities
Your profile
  • A compelling reason why ocean protection is important to you
  • An advanced degree (M.S., PhD.) in computer science, machine learning, mathematics, AI, or a related engineering field
  • Experience with practical applications of machine learning model
  • Deep understanding of SQL, Python and its ecosystem, especially oriented towards machine learning
  • You're focused, driven and know how to get the projects across the finish line
  • Work independently and take responsibility and ownership of your work
  • You're empathetic, humble and love to help your teammates
  • Working proficiency and communication skills in verbal and written English
  • Based in Berlin or willing to relocate there sometime in 2022
