RESPONSIBILITIES

Join our R&D Data Science team and provide BASF-wide data solutions for multiple application areas. This comprises materials sciences and materials development, process and quality control which are based on data analysis, data-based modeling and optimization

You will be responsible for projects in this field and closely co-operating with R&D, engineering, central functions and business units.
Furthermore, you will actively identify needs of researchers, translate these into R&D software specifications and manage the development.
You will communicate ideas and solutions of high-performance computing and big data technology to a broad community of researcher scientists as well as developers and therefore, you will be acting as an enabler in interdisciplinary project teams.
Last but not least, you will also establish and maintain collaborations with academic research groups in that domain while evaluating new approaches and exploring new application opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS

strong background in IT with an interest in natural sciences and preferably working experience in agile methodologies
programming skills in at least one of these programming languages: Python, Java, R
familiar with best practices for unit and integration testing as well as experience in the design of APIs, in relational database design, in NoSQL databases (e.g. graph databases, document stores, etc.), Big Data technologies and Apache Spark
operating knowledge of system and/or data-base administration
preferably experience with Kafka and Event Sourcing and ideally operating knowledge in setting up cloud infrastructure (e.g. Azure, AWS) as code using e.g. Ansible as well as working and operating knowledge of containerization (e.g. Docker) and Kubernetes
creative and motivated working style with a strong focus on innovation, at least fluent English language skills as well as your excellent communication skills which define you as an effective team player
