By introducing and enhancing state of the art research data management (RDM) software solutions, you will support the entire data lifecycle and revolutionize how we handle laboratory inventories and experiments with advanced electronic lab notebooks (ELN). Join our dynamic team and play a key role in transforming our research data handling by contributing to the integration of a central platform. You will collaborate with top scientists from all subject areas at BAM to drive innovation and make a real impact in development of a cutting-edge data platform.

Your responsibilities include:

You will assume central responsibility for the development and quality assurance of research data management (RDM) coupled with data analysis at. In detail, this includes the following aspects:

• Develop new concepts and models for quality-assured research data management (RDM) coupled with data analysis in the field of materials science and analytical research
• Support national and international research projects and initiatives for the further development of data platforms and repositories to strengthen BAM's research efficiency and visibility
• Collaborate with natural scientists and engineers to develop a central data platform for research data from various disciplines
• Consolidate and expand in-house expertise in the areas of data management and data analysis and evaluate the suitability of new tools and methods
• Expand your teaching expertise in the documentation of methods and training, advising researchers
• Set standards in the field of research data management with publications of your own research results and the results of research collaborations
• Represent BAM at national and international conferences

Your qualifications:

• Successfully completed scientific university studies (diploma, master's degree) in a subject relevant to the position (e.g. computer science, technical software development, bioinformatics, physics, data engineering or comparable subject area) with a very good doctorate
• Very good knowledge of at least one programming language (e.g. Python, R, Java, C++) including in-depth knowledge of programming paradigms
• Very good knowledge of database systems (SQL and NoSQL)
• Extensive experience in the field of research data management and in the introduction of RDM systems with scientific working groups
• Good knowledge of customizing RDM systems and/or developing data models and metadata schemas
• Experience in the analysis, interpretation, and visualization of scientific data sets
• Experience with version control systems (e.g. Git, Mercurial, Subversion)
• Experience in the supervision of junior researchers
• Excellent oral and written language skills/expressiveness in English
• Knowledge of RDM methods/platforms (e.g. openBIS) and/or metadata formats is desirable
• Experience with large amounts of data from the field of materials science or engineering or natural sciences is desirable
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Goal-oriented and structured way of working, with a strong willingness to cooperate and collaborate with others. Eager to learn and adopt, with strong conceptual, strategic and innovative thinking skills
